Town of Aurora and Village of East Aurora: Options for Shared Highway/DPW Services
The Town of Aurora and Village of East Aurora in western NY engaged CGR to document the existing operations in their highway and public works departments and to explore options for increasing efficiency and effectiveness and maximizing the return to taxpayers. The communities have a history of identifying areas for cooperation and implementing mutually beneficial agreements, including provision of police service by the Village to the Town, and maintenance of the Village park grounds by the Town. CGR found combined highway/public works expenditures of $3.5 million and concluded that consolidation of highway/DPW functions under the Town would be a feasible alternative to the current structure and would result in modest savings.
