Strengthening Alternatives to Incarceration Programs and Criminal Justice System Practices in Steuben County
In a study for Steuben County, CGR identified changes the county can implement that will reduce the jail population by an estimated 30 inmates (or more) per day, saving county taxpayers at least $876,000 annually. At the time of the study, the jail operated at or near capacity, and county officials sought to ensure their plans for an expanded facility would meet local needs for many years to come. CGR focused on the county’s alternative to incarceration (ATI) programs and overall Criminal & Juvenile Justice practices and their impact on the local jail population.
